Zion Day 2 – The Narrows

Rode shuttle to Zion Adventure Center and rented our neoprene socks and canyoneering shoes.

Hard walking made easier by cool socks and shoes.

Rode back to park, switched to canyon bus and rode to Temple of Sinawawa. Hiked Riverside Walk to Gateway to Narrows where we entered the riverbed.  Hiked for about 7 hours sometimes waist deep in the Virgin River.  The bottom was mostly cobblestones.  We got to the Narrows and it was awesome, but you couldn’t look up while walking or you would fall down if you were in the water.  Beth and Evan fell down about 3 times each.  Gary didn’t.

Just miscellaneous photos of us walking in water.

Took with Beth’s old 2 megapixel camera because it was expendable if it fell in.

Somewhere along the way we heard something that Gary and Beth thought was a gunshot and a backpack-sized rock fell off the side of the canyon wall and plummeted to the opposite bank sending up a cloud of dust.

The End.  Grumpy looking aren’t I?

Evan loved it all.

Got back to camp freezing on bus.  The water was 49 degrees and the sun just came out about the time we got to camp.

Changed into dry clothes.  Went to Springdale and had a good dinner at the “historic” Pioneer Lodge Restaurant. Walked next door to the Pioneer Lodge Coffee shop and blogged this.
